RMC journalist dismisses Liverpool’s chances of signing Fekir

RMC journalist Jonatan MacHardy does not believe Liverpool will return for the services of Lyon captain Nabil Fekir during the ongoing transfer window. The France international came on the cusp of joining the Reds in June but the move was scuppered at the final hurdle with the Merseyside giants expressing concern over the player’s injury record.

Since then, there has been literally no contact between the sides and MacHardy has now suggested that the World Cup-winning midfielder has no concerns about extending his stay with Les Gones, he told Foot RMC: “Nabil Fekir has all the interest to stay in Lyon and will play the Champions League. He’s coming out of a bad injury. We are football fans and we love to see Nabil play. It’s a pleasure to see him playing at home. I hope he will stay.”

Despite the setback, Liverpool don’t appear to be largely affected with Xherdan Shaqiri recently signed to cover the void left by Philippe Coutinho..
Unlike Fekir, Shaqiri has vast experience in the Premier League with Stoke City and the Swiss may feature regularly from the bench next term with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino very much certain to start upfront.

Aside from the attack, the Reds have also solidified the midfield and goalkeeping positions during the summer and they could offer a strong challenge for the Premier League this term with an easier schedule to start with. Liverpool don’t face any of the top six until after the September international break and Jurgen Klopp’s side could find themselves topping the table, provided they are no particular setbacks against the mid-table teams.

Liverpool are currently back at the Melwood training ground after the second part of their pre-season tour in the United States. They are now scheduled to face Napoli and Torino in their remaining friendlies before hosting West Ham United in their Premier League opener on August 12.
