Nabil Fekir’s proposed move to Liverpool is not finished – Agent
The agent of Nabil Fekir has confirmed that the Frenchman could yet seal a summer move to Liverpool. The 24-year-old had been on the cusp of joining the Reds earlier in the month but the deal was scuppered at the final hurdle amid concerns over the midfielder’s injury record. Despite this, his representative believes the move could be revived following the summer World Cup, he said: “[Fekir] did not sign because it is not finished, the story.”
Meanwhile, when posed the question on national team duty, Fekir suggested that he no longer has any issues with his right knee but refused on speak on the Reds speculation at the World Cup, he said: “My knee is great. Honestly, I feel like before my injury. I am with the France team, I am happy to be here. I'm not here to talk about my personal situation. We'll see later.”
Lyon had a top campaign last term with 18 goals and eight assists in the French top-flight and this helped Les Gones secure a third place finish which ensured their return to the Champions League. As such, there has been a strong interest from the Reds but their insistence on re-negotiating the £53m transfer fee has pulled the plug on the proposed deal.
At present, Fekir is with the France national side at the summer World Cup and any decision over his future may only be taken after the global tournament. Les Bleus opened their points tally at the World Cup with a 2-1 win over Australia where Fekir was a second half substitute and the midfielder could get more opportunities in the coming weeks with Peru and Denmark to face in Group C. The World Cup has certainly brought surprises early on with several underdogs picking up valuable points and France need to avoid any complacency in their remaining group games.
