TWINS FUTURE IN THE AIR

The progress of Manchester United’s Brazilian wing backs Rafael and Fabio Da Silva has gone almost backwards this season with both of them being in and out of the side through injury and poor form respectively and the one chance they got to prove to Sir Alex Ferguson that they do have a future at the famous club against Ajax Amsterdam in their UEFA Europa League match at home, they could not grab it with both hands.

Fergie was relatively displeased at the performance of the twins in The Red Devils’ 1-2 loss at the hands of Ajax and although they still managed to progress to the next round on aggregate, the Da Silva twins are seemingly staring at the exit door.

When United signed the twins from Brazilian club Fluminense after watching them in action in the Manchester United Premier Cup, big things were expected of them but so far, they have failed to deliver on that promise and potential. Rafael hardly played any part in this season’s English Premier League campaign having been sidelined through a shoulder injury and Fabio Da Silva couldn’t capitalize on his chance to step up to the plate in the absence of Patrice Evra.

United have been linked with many wing backs over the last two transfer windows including Jordi Alba and Tito, which makes one wonder whether the twins do indeed have a future at Old Trafford. At a club like Manchester United who are always fighting for the top position, one doesn’t get many chances to establish himself and in the opinion of many former stars, Rafael and Fabio Da Silva earned too many chances to prove themselves but they failed to do so and it is looking extremely possible that the two will be shipped off at the end of the season.
