Russell Slade hits out Publicly at Solskjaer

Cardiff manager Russell Slade has hit out at his predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by saying that the squad lacked any kind of coherence and planning.

He pointed out to the fact that the Championship outfit signed as many as 30 players at one point. This led to a bloated squad, and Slade believes that the team is paying the price for it right now. Slade has been able to benefit from some of those signings like Federico Macheda, who has been a regular first-team player. Most of them, however, are expected to be shipped away in the next few transfer windows.

After beginning the season with promotion ambitions, Cardiff are finding it difficult to even get closer to the play-offs. This led to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a few weeks ago. Slade was appointed as his replacement and he has also been unable to get consistency in the results. Prior to the international break, the team managed just two wins out of the last five matches. This sees them 12th in the table going into the weekend against Reading. Some of the players who will be departing Cardiff during the January transfer window are Striker Javi Guerra and defender Juan Cala. They have been made clear that they do not figure in the plans of Slade.

“There’s not been enough thought gone into the squad here.When you build any football team you are looking at building partnerships. There are not enough partnerships and not enough thought put into the players who have been brought to this club. Absolutely not.There’s huge potential here, but there are problems. There have been issues we have needed to solve and things we are working on. We are working very hard to make sure we are building on a solid foundation,” said Slade.
